Raceway Park Prepares For 32nd Annual Race Of Champions
Old Bridge Township's Raceway Park is getting ready for the 2008 edition of the Team Green Motocross Race of Champions, the east coast's most prestigious Fall Classic Motocross Race. Over $10,000 in cash will be awarded and THREE FREE BIKES will also be awarded to three lucky Youth and Amateur competitors.
The event, sponsored by the Kawasaki Motor Corp USA and its participating Kawasaki dealers, will take place starting on Friday October 3rd with an open practice from 10 am to 4 pm. The weekend continues on Saturday, October 4th with a full day of Amateur and Semi-Pro racing featuring some of the best riders in the Northeast. Finally, Sunday October 5th brings an the Pro Riders in for the AMA Pro-Am Motocross Race with nearly $10,000.00 cash up for grabs in the 2 premier Pro-Expert classes. In addition, Sunday will also bring special races throughout the day (see "more" below) as well as a special riding demonstration from Monster Energy Kawasaki team members. Three time AMA Motocross Lites Champion Ryan Villopoto and member of the Motocross of Nations winning team Timmy Ferry will be on hand signing autographs and showing their skills to the crowd on board the 2009 model Kawasaki's.
Throughout the years, fans at Raceway Park have cheered motocross immortals like James Stewart, Ricky Carmichael, Jeff Emig, Ryan Hughes, Mike Kiedrowski, Johnny O'Mara, Jeff Ward, Mike Larocco, Donnie Schmidt, Dammon Huffman and dozens more as they race to the checkered flag to etch their names into the KROC record books. Two of today's motocross stars, Ryan Villopoto and Tim Ferry, will be joined by dozens of Kawasaki Team Green Support racers from all over the USA and over 600 other motocross racers.
For many of the KROC Motocross Competitors, the race has evolved into much more than an annual special Englishtown MX event. For those who seek to become a part of its mystique, winning this event has become a must-do to complete any great rider's resume of event wins.
This years edition of the famed event features intense racing as riders from all over the country chase their share of the $10,000+ Pro-Expert purse and over a $40,000 in manufactures contingency postings and, more important, a spot in KROC history.
Three lucrative bonus events are guaranteed to increase the level of excitement for fans and riders during the weekend. The very best trophy class racers from Saturday's KROC Amateur classes will qualify to return on Sunday to compete in the "IRONMAN CLASSIC", "MINI CYCLE SHOOTOUT" AND "KESSLER CUP" events. All three of these classes will be awarding brand new 2009 Kawasaki KX Motocross bikes.
The complete 31st Anniversary Event Schedule is as follows: Friday, October 3rd gates open at 8 AM for early participant pit parking. Open practice on the actual race track will take place from 10-4 pm. Early sign-up for Saturday's racing will take place from 6 pm to 9 pm Friday Evening. Saturday, October 4th gates open 6:00 AM with sign up from 6-9:30 AM. Practice starts 8:30 AM with Trophy Class and Semi-Pro racing from 11:00 AM. Sunday, October 5th is the feature day; gates open at 7:00 AM with practice at 9:00 AM. Pre-elimination qualifiers 10:30 AM. Pre-Race Ceremonies with Rich Trevelise beginning at 12:30 PM. Feature racing including the KROC special exhibition event with Ryan Villopoto & Tim Ferry on the Mickey Kessler prepared Raceway Park Motocross track beginning at 1:00 PM. The following information is a tentative outline for this weekend's event:
SATURDAY: ALL trophy classes and 25+, 30+, and 40+ Expert classes.
SUNDAY: 250 & Open Pro-Expert classes, Mt. Holly Kawasaki / Fox Top Gun Mini Cycle Shootout, Can-Do Powersports Ironman Classic, & 65cc Town & Country Cycle “Kessler Cup” races.
Saturday’s sign up is from 6:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. (you MUST sign up before practice).
Practice on Saturday will begin at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. On Sunday practice will begin at 9:00 a.m. SHARP for the Mt. Holly Kawasaki / Fox sponsored Mini Cycle Shootout Exhibition Racers, Can-Do Powersports Ironman Classic, and Town & Country Cycle Center “Kessler Cup” events. All 250 & Open Pro-Expert racers will have one half hour practices from 10:00 AM to 11.00 AM.
The Raceway Park Motocross Staff advises that you walk the race track for your safety before practice. There will be NO REFUNDS for any reason once the first practice session begins. This includes mechanical failures, illness, weather related conditions, non-qualifiers, etc. NO EXCEPTIONS!
The official rules for this weekend's event follow the AMA guidelines. Visiting racers from out-of-state should ask questions before race time.

PURSE AND AWARDS: Youth, Novice, School Boy, Collegeboy, Amateur and Senior classes - Awards will be given out to 1st through 8th places. Kawasaki & Suzuki Manufacturers contingency will be paid to select classes.
PROS AND EXPERTS: Qualifying motos will be run if 43 or more riders sign up in a class. The top 20 from each qualifier will race in features. These short qualifiers are to determine 40 rider, two moto program. NO payout for qualifiers. ALL riders except 2008 Raceway Park Motocross Points Series (Top 5 riders only) must qualify into 40 rider field. Moto payout for 250 & Open Expert class listed below. 30+ Pro-Expert, 25+ Pro-Expert, and 40+ Expert based on exact number of entries per class times $40.00 divided into two moto payout.
