$1.3 Million in Contingency for AMA Arenacross

A total of 14 sponsors have signed on to support the exciting sport of arenacross, bringing in a total of $1.3 Million for the series’ 25th year of racing.

“Without the support of these sponsors, the AMA Arenacross Series would not be where it is at today,” stated AMA Arenacross Series Director Jayme Dalsing. “Their role is integral to the growth of the series. and the riders and teams cannot thank them enough for their efforts.”

With a consolidated schedule for 2009, the series is dropping the split weekend format that was established two years ago while also working to benefit the riders and teams. The series is also introducing three new venues and media markets with the inclusion of races in Tulsa, Okla., Fresno, Calif., and Highland Heights, Ky.

AMA Toyota MX Heads to New England for Kicker Audio Southwick National

SOUTHWICK, Mass. (August 19, 2008) – Motocross 338, New England’s pro motocross facility, welcomes the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Presented by FMF for the penultimate round of the 2008 season with the Kicker Audio Southwick Motocross National. On August 23-24, the world’s best riders will tackle the “Sandbox” for round 11 of the 12-race championship.

Moving from its traditional mid-season date, the circuit’s only sand track will present new challenges for the competitors with weather conditions expected to be at their warmest ever. Since hosting its first AMA Pro National in 1976, Motocross 338 has seen many of the sports greatest riders grace the winners circle. However, no rider has been more dominant at Southwick than Ricky Carmichael, whose nine overall victories are five more than any other rider. For the first time since 1999, a new face will sit atop the podium.

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s James Stewart and Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto have been the men to beat in the AMA Motocross and AMA Motocross Lites classes and both riders clinched their respective championships last weekend in Millville, Minn. For Stewart, it was his first career AMA Motocross title while Villopoto claimed AMA Motocross Lites crown number three. Heading into Southwick, Stewart is just four moto wins away from being the second rider in history to complete a perfect season while Rockstar/Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey guns for his third consecutive victory in AMA Motocross Lites.

Track manager Ralph Pittello has made significant strides to make the 2008 event at Southwick available to more fans, expanding the track’s VIP area as well as adding a large, yet limited number of bleacher seating free for those in attendance.

In addition to the excitement of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship, the AMA/WMA Women’s National Motocross Championship Presented by Kawasaki competes in round five of its six-race season. Points leader Ashley Fiolek will lead the way while Massachusetts local Katlyn Crowley will have the hometown crowd on her side.

Mini Bike Nationals are scheduled to hit the track on Saturday, while the band Ten Man Push sets the tone on Sunday morning with a live show at 11:30 a.m. For fans watching at home, SPEED will present the final of three same-day coverage telecast of the season at 6 p.m. ET on August 24.

AMA announces Motocross of Nations Team

The American Motorcyclist Association announced today members of AMA Team USA for the 2008 Motocross of Nations. This years event is being held at the Donington Park Circuit in England on September 27-28.

Leading the way will be MX1 entrant James Stewart. The 2007 AMA Supercross Champion and current AMA Motocross Championship points leader will return to Team USA after missing the 2007 event with a knee injury. "I'm excited to be a part of Team USA," said Stewart. "My main goal this season was to win the motocross championship and I knew if I could do that I would have a good chance of representing the USA at the Motocross of Nations." Stewart has recorded perfect scores during the 2008 AMA Toyota Motocross Championship and recently positioned himself 4th on the all-time AMA wins list behind Ricky Carmichael, Jeremy McGrath and Bob Hannah.

After his dominating performance at last years Budds Creek Motocross of Nations, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto will make his third consecutive appearance as AMA Team USA's MX2 rider. Villopoto has been the overall MX2 champion at the event in both of his appearances and is looking to wrap up his third straight AMA Motocross Lites Championship before closing out his stellar Lites class career at the Motocross of Nations. "Riding for Team USA is a great experience" said Villopoto. "This will be my last race on a Kawasaki KX250F and I really want to end my lites career with another great run against the world's best."

Veteran Tim Ferry will return to AMA Team USA as the Open class rider, marking his third appearance at the famous event. Ferry was a member of the 2003 team in Zolder, Belgium where the team finished second overall. His most recent run came with the victorious 2007 effort in which Ferry was the overall Open class champion. "It is an honor to be a part of this team," said Ferry. "Being on the team with James and Ryan is awesome and I know we are going to do our best to win it all again."

AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Makes Lone Trip to New York

For Monster Energy National at Unadilla on July 19-20

NEW BERLIN, N.Y. (July 15, 2008) The first-ever AMA-sanctioned motocross event at Unadilla Valley Sports Center was held in 1972 and every year since the natural terrain circuit has been a fixture of American motocross. This season, the Monster Energy National at Unadilla Presented by Renegade Haulers will host round eight of the 12-race AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Presented by FMF on July 19-20.


For 2008, track promoter Ward Robinson is introducing three new sections to the circuit, while also resurfacing the layout. However, the old-school elements of Gravity Cavity, the Wall and Skyshot, all appropriately named sections of the track that are loved so dearly by riders and fans alike, return to provide high-flying action. Additionally, 13,000-cubic yards of sand has been brought in to challenge the riders. That’s enough sand to fill a football stadium three feet deep.


Monster Energy Kawasaki’s James Stewart continues his push towards a perfect season. The series points leader missed out on the action in New York last season due to injury but is eager to return and solidify his spot in second on the all-time win list at the circuit.


In AMA Motocross Lites, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto holds a healthy points lead as he makes his run at a third-consecutive title. An overall winner at Unadilla his rookie year, he had a rough outing in 2007 and hopes to return to the top step of the podium.


As the dust settles after the pros finish with practice on Saturday evening, New York’s very own Ten Man Push will bring Unadilla Valley Sports Center to life with the first of two concerts supporting the event. Playing tracks from their album “Kingdom of Fools” along with covers of some of the most popular mainstream hits, this fast rising foursome will set the tone for an energized evening with a 7 p.m. show. On Sunday, the band will bring the excitement to a boil with an 11:30 a.m. performance leading into the opening ceremonies.


Monster Energy steps up in 2008 as the event’s title sponsor while Renegade Haulers makes its return for the third year in a row as the presenting sponsor.


On track action can also be seen in the form of amateur racing on Friday and Saturday. One of the largest programs for a AMA Toyota Motocross Championship weekend, over 1,000 riders are from the United States and Canada are expected to compete.

Additionally, the inaugural Road to Recovery Golf Tournament on Friday, July 18 brings in local support and interest to the sport of motocross. Registration and lunch for the tournament are at 11:30 a.m. ET with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. ET. All the festivities take place at the Shenandoah Golf Club at Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, N.Y.

Television coverage of the Monster Energy National at Unadilla Presented by Renegade Haulers can be seen on SPEED, with an AMA Motocross class one-hour broadcast on July 26, at 10 p.m. ET and an AMA Motocross Lites one-hour show on July 29, at 2 p.m. ET.

NJ Riders make the "Big Show"

Dateline Hurricane Mills TN. NJ racers to compete for national championships.

The 27^thannual Air Nautiques/AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships takes place at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills TN the week of July 28th. Several NJ riders made it through the rigorous qualifying procedure where a field of more than 20,000 racers is narrowed down to 1386 qualifying positions. For many of these riders this event could be the next step to a lucrative motocross career.

Here is a little on each NJ rider making the trip:

Grant Desiderio (Washington, NJ) is the younger brother of Suzuki Support rider Nick Desiderio. Nick will be competing in the Schoolboy 12-16 class. Their dad Steve used to compete on the national circuit in the 80's and his riding skills have rubbed off on the young KTM rider. Grant made the cut in the (4-6) Stock Shaft Drive class.

Bryton Carroll (Vineland, NJ) is also the son of a former National series competitor. If fact his dad Brian was a Loretta Lynn's champion in 2001. Bryton qualified in the 51 (4-6) AMA 1 Stock class.

Brandon Hartranft (Brick, NJ) and his brother Jacob are the other brother duo from NJ taking the trip to Loretta Lynn's. Brandon qualified in both the 65 (7-11) Modified and 65 (7-9) Stock classes.

Jacob Hartranft (Brick, NJ) qualified in both the 85 (9-11) Stock and Modified classes.

Suzuki rider Damian Robinson (Little Falls, NJ) will join Hartranft in both the 85 (9-11) Stock and Modified classes as well.

The last mini rider from NJ making the show is Luke Renzland (Hewitt, NJ). Luke qualified in both the Super Mini (12-15) and 85 (12-13) Modified class.

The Schoolboy class has the most NJ riders. Frankie Lettieri (Brick,NJ) quakified in both the Schoolboy 1 (12-16) B/C and Schoolboy 2 (14-16) classes.

Also racing in the Schoolboy 1 and 2 classes at Loretta Lynn's is Charles Sherby (Woodbine, NJ) and joining Lettieri and Sherby in the Schoolboy 2 class is Nick Desiderio (Washington, NJ) (No Photo)

Chris Duymich (Millstone Twp, NJ) is taking his first trip to the ranch in 2008. Chris qualified in the MX Lites "C" Modified class.

Nicholas Myers (Egg Harbor Twp, NJ) qualified in both the Motocross "B" Stock class and MX Lites "B" Modified class and is joined in the Lites class by Tyler Wozney (North Haledon, NJ)(No Photo)

In "A" class racing three NJ riders have qualified. Dakota Kessler (Farmingdale, NJ) qualified in in the Motocross "A" and MX Lites "A" classes

Anthony Roth (West Creek, NJ) qualified in the Motocross A and Motocross A Pro-Sport classes

And Brian Mulcahy (Hewitt, NJ) qualified in the MX Lites "A" class.

And rounding out the NJ group making the race is Darren Edsall ( Lafayete, NJ). Darren is the lone vet rider from NJ. He qualified in both the 25+ and 35+ classes.

AMA Racing Suspends Motocross Rider Jason Lawrence

PICKERINGTON, Ohio--The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) announced today that it has suspended professional motocross rider Jason Lawrence for unacceptable behavior detrimental to the sport. According to AMA officials, Lawrence was arrested for disorderly conduct at Red Bud Track & Trail on July 4 while in Buchanan, Michigan, for round six of the AMA Toyota Motocross Series Presented by FMF. The incident follows a penalty and suspended fine issued in June for conduct detrimental to the sport at the Freestone County Raceway during round three of the series in Wortham, Texas.

"Mr. Lawrence is suspended indefinitely," said AMA Director of Motocross/Supercross/ATV Ryan Holliday. "In addition, the $25,000 fine that was issued after the June incident and suspended contingent upon the successful completion of a one-year probation will now be imposed." Holliday added that the AMA would not reconsider Lawrence's status until the conclusion of the 2008 season.

Lawrence was notified of the suspension at the race on July 5.

Already on probation with the AMA for an incident last week in Texas Jason's recent troubles could cost him his Yamaha of Troy ride. Hopefully Jason will be able to get his career back on track after this bump in the road. Lawrence is the MX Lites West Coast SX Champion and hails from Estell Manor NJ.

For the first time in 2008, the SPEED will feature same day coverage of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Presented by FMF. The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) issued separate penalties today to professional motocross riders Jason Lawrence and Josh Hill for off-track activities detrimental to the sport at last weekend's AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Presented by FMF at Freestone County Raceway in Wortham, Texas, June 7-8.
"AMA Racing conducted an investigation on the reported incidents involving each rider at the event," said AMA Director of Motocross/Supercross/ATV Ryan Holliday. Lawrence and Hill have each been fined $25,000 by the AMA, payment for which will be suspended contingent upon the successful completion of a one-year probation period with no further offenses. If either rider is involved in any disciplinary action during the next 12 months, the suspended fine would be enforced, as well as the second offense penalty. In addition, further disciplinary action will be considered,including the suspension or loss of license from AMA competition.
The riders were notified of the penalties on June 12, 2008.
