Good Bye Jack

When opening day at Raceway Park comes this season something will surely be missing. The laugh and smile of our friend Jack Meyer will only be a memory. As many of you may already know Jack passed away on the 7th of January while on run in Florida. In the days following his death I became more aware of all that Jack did in his 53 years of life. Many of us in the Motocross community only knew him as Dragon Jack, the guy with the goggles and the glasses. We didn't realize that during his life he was so much more than that. His smile and warm heart touched everyone he came in contact with. His amazing artistic ability adorned surf boards and t-shirt designs all across the world. The motocross world was new to Jack and only during the last 5 or 6 years had he joined our group. He was instantly welcomed by our community. But then again how could he not be, he was loved by everyone. Little did any of us know about Jack's other life. His passion for art and the ocean. Although he was never formally trained in art he painted from his mind. His dramatic seascapes adorned surfboards the world over and he was a highly sought after artist for surfwear giants Quicksilver and Billabong among others. He loved the sport of surfing and the feeling that it gave him. Attending Jack's funeral was very emotional, it was hard to believe that one man could touch so many people and then a week later on the 20th of January the surfing brotherhood and sisterhood said goodbye. On possibly the coldest and windiest day of the year over 150 surfers donned wetsuits to take part in the paddle out ceremony. A paddle out is a traditional Hawaiian ceremony to say good bye. With hundreds more watching from the beach Jack's send off was truly something to behold. A man that was truly loved by all. I for one will never forget my friend Jack. It will never be the same at the track again with out you around I will never look at a Dragon sticker without thinking about you. Aloha Jack.
-Your Friend Scott

AMA Pro/Am Motocross Schedule to feature Raceway Park

January 16, 2007

2007 AMA Pro/Am Motocross Schedule Announced
- press release -

PICKERINGTON, Ohio (Jan. 16, 2007) – AMA Racing has announced the 2007 AMA Pro/Am Motocross Schedule. Reflecting AMA Racing’s ongoing effort to improve rider transition from amateur to professional competition, Pro/Am motocross events will provide “A” class amateur riders the opportunity to earn points towards their AMA Professional Motocross license and AMA Supercross Lites endorsement.
In addition to the Toyota AMA Arenacross Series and the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships at Loretta Lynn’s, AMA Pro/Am motocross events will give riders the opportunity to earn points on a year-round basis and in racing environments that they feel the most comfortable.
“We’re very excited to have what we feel is a fair qualification system in which amateur riders earn the right to compete at the professional level of AMA Supercross and Motocross”, said AMA Racing’s Amateur Motocross Manager Ryan Holliday.
As a bonus to the AMA Pro/Am motocross program, select races will award riders “double points” due to the highly competitive and prestigious nature of these events.
AMA Racing will continue to organize the Fall-based Eastern Pro/Am Championship Series, formerly known as the AMA Four-Stroke Nationals and Thundercross Series. The 2007 series features new venues including Pleasure Valley Raceway, Armaugh, Penn., Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Baja Acres in Millington, Mich., and Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J.

Lukaitis Photo

Lukaitis Photo is the parent company for all that I do. Started in January 2005 I formed a photography company to make my work a business. It went from a hobby to a full fledged business. Working for Raceway News I covered each motocross event at Raceway Park for publication in the paper. I found that my photos were not enough and I should try an better my writing as well. So I did. Covering motocross racing in the great state of New Jersey is what I've been waiting for. While working on expanding my business I saw a need for more web presence. Launching this winter will be 2 new websites which I will explain in more detail later. As for now check out my work in Raceway News ( Free copies available upon request ) or in my portfolio section of Lukaitis Photo.com.
Thanks for your interest.

Godspeed Jack

I learned some aweful news this morning. Jack Meyer or Dragon Jack as many in the NJ motocross community would know him was taken from us. Jack passed away of an apparent heart attack. Although at this point I'm not completely sure on all the details it seems as though our friend is gone. I will certainly miss him. I will post any funeral arrangements as soon as I hear about them.
