Lawrence and Nick Wey will make up the newly-formed Boost Mobile am/pm Monster Energy Troy Racing team set to go this Saturday

CARLSBAD, Calif. – With backing from a number of his longtime sponsors, and a new 450 class teammate that should give him a good look at what’s in store following the defense of his ’08 WSX Lites title, Jason “JLaw” Lawrence and his new Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy Racing team is ready to gate up and dump the clutch on the 2009 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, season beginning this Saturday in Anaheim, Calif.

Lawrence will be back on the same Yamaha YZ250F that he captured the WSX title for his team and sponsors in Seattle last April. And along with some new sponsors – namely ampm retail outlets – Lawrence is looking forward to just stepping up and racing, getting the job done on his title defense.

“It’s all I’ve been thinking about the past five months – defending my title,” said Lawrence. “Everything I’ve done, all the training, all the laps, all the time in the gym – pretty much every day – has all been done so I’m prepared for Anaheim 1. So if I lose the title it’s not because I wasn’t prepared. And I’m cool with that.”

Lawrence’s actions, AMA probation and subsequent suspension this past summer were well-documented in the MX industry. He’s got his critics, but also a legion of fans that are extremely loyal – which is one of the main reasons that got the 21-year-old to snap out of his sophomoric funk and back into the training and focus levels of one of the world’s top motocross racers.

“We convinced some pretty big sponsors to come on board here and I understand its up to me not to blow things,” he said. “And not just for me. I’ve got a team to think about now.”

Joining Lawrence on the Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy Racing team will be veteran SX class racer Nick Wey. A highly-decorated amateur racer with multiple Loretta’s titles, a former Outdoor National 125cc winner (Millville, Minn., ’99) and consistent top five premier SX class overall finisher, Wey will not only add some stability and guidance to the Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy Racing program, he’ll also give Lawrence a good perspective on the 450 class for when Lawrence moves up in 2010.

“I’m for sure looking forward to getting back in the gate on the YZs,” said Wey, who rode Yamahas for three years from 2001 to ’03. “It’s going to be a long season with as many straight weekends of racing as we’ve ever seen. Being consistent will be key in order to set yourself up to challenge at then end, and that’s the strategy I plan on sticking to with the Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy Racing team.”

Noteworthy: The former “Yamaha of Troy” title has completely been dropped from the team name for 2009. The official team name for Lawrence and Wey is Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy Racing.

CBS Sports to air Preview Show of 2009 Monster Energy® Supercross Season

AURORA, Ill. – Feld Motor Sports announced today that CBS Sports will broadcast a one-hour preview show in HD of the 2009 Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, Saturday, December 27 at 2:00 p.m. EST.

Looking ahead at the highly anticipated 2009 Monster Energy® Supercross championship, the preview show sets up the various storylines. CBS Sports gives viewers an in-depth analysis of the Chad Reed/James Stewart rivalry and weighs in on AMA Supercross Lites star Ryan Villopoto’s move to the premier AMA Supercross class.

With a new season comes new changes, and two of the biggest changes are Stewart and Reed’s new teams. The show will give an overview of the 2009 Monster Energy® Supercross team line-up.

“This is a great way to preview the 2009 Monster Energy® Supercross championship,” said Dave Prater, director of supercross, Feld Motor Sports. “With the highly publicized team changes of Reed and Stewart, some of the other major team changes were overshadowed. CORONA, CA - Monster Energy's JaImage via Wikipediason "JLaw" Lawrence took a break from turning heads at tracks here locally in SoCal and hopped a plane to Italy to contest this past weekend's Genoa Supercross - the final round of the 2008 FIM UEM Supercross Series.

Decked out in the latest Fox gear and running a bike set up for him over in Europe, Lawrence from all reports was on it - tearing into the competition to the tune of around a couple seconds per lap on the tight SX/AX hybrid Genoa track.

In his first heat race Lawrence went down in the whoop section after having already lapped nearly the entire field. JLaw then stepped it up again in the next heat race, winning that one easily. In the main he got out early, but ran into some mechanical problems right away and his night was over. Overall Lawrence was again a couple seconds faster per lap than the other top guys there, namely Ben Coisy and Marvin Musquin.

"Bummed my bike broke, but more than anything I was pumped on the fans there," said Lawrence. "Definitely plan on coming back again. Italy's rad."

Lawrence will get back after it here this week in continuing his preparation for the Monster Energy Supercross season opener at Anaheim's (Calif.) Angel Stadium, Jan. 3.

"Okay, here’s the deal with the Yamaha of Troy race team. They are not going to have Yamaha support in 2009. They will be the YOT, Boost Mobile, Monster Energy, AM/PM team with Jason Lawrence and Nick Wey as the riders. Lawrence has done a Fox gear deal, while Nick will likely stay with his longtime sponsor, MSR. Supposedly, the bikes will be all black with big Monster Energy logos. That’s a good thing, because you just don’t see enough Monster Energy logos at the races these days, you know? Anyway, it sounds like it will be a pretty cool deal and I’m stoked the YOT guys will be around again this year. In the current economic climate, that is a major commitment from those guys and I applaud them for it."

AMA Toyota MX Heads to New England for Kicker Audio Southwick National

SOUTHWICK, Mass. (August 19, 2008) – Motocross 338, New England’s pro motocross facility, welcomes the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Presented by FMF for the penultimate round of the 2008 season with the Kicker Audio Southwick Motocross National. On August 23-24, the world’s best riders will tackle the “Sandbox” for round 11 of the 12-race championship.

Moving from its traditional mid-season date, the circuit’s only sand track will present new challenges for the competitors with weather conditions expected to be at their warmest ever. Since hosting its first AMA Pro National in 1976, Motocross 338 has seen many of the sports greatest riders grace the winners circle. However, no rider has been more dominant at Southwick than Ricky Carmichael, whose nine overall victories are five more than any other rider. For the first time since 1999, a new face will sit atop the podium.

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s James Stewart and Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto have been the men to beat in the AMA Motocross and AMA Motocross Lites classes and both riders clinched their respective championships last weekend in Millville, Minn. For Stewart, it was his first career AMA Motocross title while Villopoto claimed AMA Motocross Lites crown number three. Heading into Southwick, Stewart is just four moto wins away from being the second rider in history to complete a perfect season while Rockstar/Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey guns for his third consecutive victory in AMA Motocross Lites.

Track manager Ralph Pittello has made significant strides to make the 2008 event at Southwick available to more fans, expanding the track’s VIP area as well as adding a large, yet limited number of bleacher seating free for those in attendance.

In addition to the excitement of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship, the AMA/WMA Women’s National Motocross Championship Presented by Kawasaki competes in round five of its six-race season. Points leader Ashley Fiolek will lead the way while Massachusetts local Katlyn Crowley will have the hometown crowd on her side.

Mini Bike Nationals are scheduled to hit the track on Saturday, while the band Ten Man Push sets the tone on Sunday morning with a live show at 11:30 a.m. For fans watching at home, SPEED will present the final of three same-day coverage telecast of the season at 6 p.m. ET on August 24.

New Jersey Racers North of the Border

A couple of NJ riders tried their luck North of the Border at Round 8 of the Monster Energy CMRC Motocross Nationals. This past weekend's event was held at the Sand Del Lee track in Munster, Ontario, Canada. In MX2 class action Freehold Honda backed Bobby Jimenez (Browns Mills) went 18-dnf for 23rd overall while Mt Holly Racing teammates Bryan Wallace and Ryan Gainey did battle in the MX1 class. Wallace went 13-15 for 15th overall and Gainey finished 19-19 for 20th overall. Wallace is now 26th while Gainey is 29th in the overall points stndings.

CORONA, Calif., (July 30, 2008) – Monster Energy’s Jason “JLaw” Lawrence (Yamaha of Troy) – the reigning 2008 WSX Monster Energy Supercross champion – has confirmed he’ll be competing this week/weekend at the ESPN Summer X Games in the Moto-X Racing event.

Lawrence, who’s serving a bit of a suspension from the AMA Outdoor, will run his smokin’ fast Yamaha of Troy YZ250F - the same bike that got him a moto win at the Glen Helen (Calif.) MX opener - for the X Games. In addition, ALL of Lawrence’s sponsors have his back and are pumped to see him racing again.

Catching up with Lawrence, he’s ready to give answers to some of the more pressing questions – between burning some mind-blowing fast laps out at Glen Helen.

Monster Energy: What’s been happening?

JLaw: “Just been working on sorting out some issues, man. I’m back training with Ryno, which is cool. Riding as much as I can, getting ready for X Games this week.

ME: We read somewhere on the Internet that you’re racing in Australia.

JLaw: “Yeah, I’m told you can read a lot of stuff on the Internet lately (laughter). Naw, I’m not planning on racing in Australia. Just working on putting the pieces back together here.”

ME: What have you done in the last couple weeks to move forward with things after what went down at RedBud.

JLaw: “There’s a short list of people I’ve surrounded myself with that are giving me advice. The main thing is I’ve got to avoid the situations that have gotten me in trouble in the past. I think the best piece of advice I’ve got is that ‘you’ve got to pick your spots.’ I mean, I’m 21 and like to have a good time. But I’m also realizing now that there’s a difference between going out and having a good time and going out and having things get out of hand.

“So that’s the immediate thing I’m working on – avoiding the situations that have got me in trouble. (pause) But at the same time I’m not going to quit enjoying the fact that I race dirt bikes for a living and, until I gotta get a desk job or something, I plan on having fun doing what I’m doing.”

ME: What have your sponsors said to you?

JLaw: “Man, that’s the best part. Everybody – and I mean EVERYBODY – has got my back. Yamaha of Troy, Monster – I couldn’t have asked for better sponsors. And yeah, I’ve been smacked around a bit in a couple meetings, but hell, what do you expect? I let a lot of people down, so now I want to prove to them that I can rally, make it back to where I was feeling the greatest – like after winning the title – everybody’s saying ‘Dude, we’re proud of you.’”

ME: What’s next?

JLaw: “X Games. I plan on showing up and killing it. I’ll have about a month of frustration to release and I’m either going to win or crash big trying again.”

ME: Any parting words?

JLaw: “Yeah, you know, I just want to let everybody know I’m learning from my mistakes. I’m never going to be the clean cut poster boy some people think I should be, but to the people that are important to me – my friends and family, sponsors and, mostly, my fans – I plan on being the same rowdy, take-no-$%@! racer you can either come to cheer for or hate – I’m good with it either way.

“So I’m all about maintaining that edge I’ve always had – just gotta be sure now to avoid the situations that have got me in some trouble in the past, know what I mean?”

ME: Right on. Thanks for the time, Jason.

JLaw: “Thanks for coming out. And hey, tell everybody to keep an eye on the No. 338 bike at the X Games because it’s going to be insane.”

Mt Holly Racing North of the Border

Mt Holly Racing Teammates Ryan Gainey and Bryan Wallace spent the weekend in Canada racing round 2 of the Monster Energy CMRC Canadian National Series. Both rider qualified in the MX1 class with Bryan finishing 18-29 for 22nd overall and Ryan finishing 31-21 for 32nd overall.

Yamaha of Troy backed, New Jersey native(Estell Manor)Jason Lawrence used 1-5 moto scores to take home 3rd overall in the opening round of the AMA National Motocross Series at the Glen Helen race track in San Bernadino California. Jason sits tied for second in points with Ryan Villopoto as they go to round 2 at Hangtown California this weekend.
